Jazz Dance Classes at Bedford Youth Performing Company
Just like jazz music is full of life and improvisation, jazz dance is full of energy and creativity. BYPC's jazz dance classes range for all ages and abilities to provide students with everything from introductory movement to advance technique. Students in these jazz dance classes at our Bedford, NH studio learn a wide variety of jazz styles that showcase how the genre of dance has evolved over the years and fits within different applications from music videos to Broadway shows.
Jazz / Tap Combo
This BYPC jazz and tap combination class introduces students to the foundations of dance including ballet, tap, and jazz. Students begin with a center warm-up on the floor for stretching and to developing strong feet and ankles, and then they progress to exercises for finding balance. Students perform across the floor movements and leaps for developing smooth weight transferal and foot strength. During the second half of the class, dancers perform ankle warm-ups, practice steps and rhythms, and work both in the center of the studio and across the floor.
HIP HOP / JAZZ COMBO
Ages 4 1/2-6
Students begin with a center warm up on the floor for stretch and to develop strong feet and ankles, then progress to exercises for finding balance. Students perform across-the-floor movements and leaps for developing smooth weight transferal and foot strength. These classes prepare students to then move into a Broadway and classical style Jazz class or an fun and modern inspired hip-hop class.
Jazz / Hip-Hop I
This jazz and hip-hop combination class introduces students to both creative styles of dance. The first half of class begins with a jazz warm-up in the center of the floor and a series of stretches for the entire body. Students perform a series of basic jazz moves designed to develop balance and strength in the feet and ankles. Leaps, runs, and turns taught in the language of jazz and hip-hope are performed across the floor. At this Bedford, NH jazz / hip-hop class, students learn a series of hip-hop dance and jazz steps taught in a combination. The combinations change weekly and are intended to develop listening skills and provide a fun, exciting challenge.
Students in this BYPC dance class are introduced to the exciting art form of jazz dance by learning various ways to move their bodies. Instruction is aimed at developing musicality, balance, muscular and aerobic endurance, flexibility, and proper body alignment. Dancers learn different forms of jazz including pop/funk, Broadway style, and lyrical expression. Choreography is broken down into a series of 8 counts, which provides a fun and rewarding experience for each dancer.
This jazz class at BYPC continues to develop musicality, balance, muscular and aerobic endurance, flexibility, and proper body alignment. Dancers increase their understanding of the various jazz dance styles including pop/funk, Broadway style, and lyrical expression. Students in BYPC's Jazz Technique III class are exposed to a broad selection of music to impart an appreciation of song and dance as art forms.
Jazz Technique IV
This one-hour intermediate / advanced jazz class at BYPC builds further upon what students have learned in the previous jazz technique class. The goals of the instruction and variety of jazz styles remains the same, yet goes into more depth. All skills are taught progressively and honor each student's ability and age.
